Starting their own business came with its fair share of challenges. “Funding was a big challenge,” Ralph explained. “When you start out, there’s a big build-out, and you need to find a good, reliable, trained staff who will follow our system. We have 99% of our staff that was here with us from day one, and we’re proud to say that we know how to run our business.”

Being part of a tight-knit community like Long Beach has its pros and cons. The support and enthusiasm from customers who appreciate their dream-turned-reality are incredibly rewarding. 

However, dealing with the city as their landlord has presented some unique challenges. “Our landlord is the city of Long Beach,” Ralph shared. “It’s a little challenging, with different things like the bathrooms. The bathrooms here are outside, and the city controls them. So, it’s a struggle for us, something we’re negotiating with the city.”

Despite the seasonal nature of their business, Ralph and Stacy are determined to make the most of every opportunity. “Our season is really short,” Stacy explained. “If there are people on the boardwalk, we have the opportunity to turn them on to Beach Burger and sell them a treat. We’re gonna be here and be open.”

Looking ahead, the couple sees growth opportunities in expanding their offerings. They hope to serve beer and wine, which would not only enhance their menu but also extend their season and revenue potential. Additionally, they believe that Long Beach should invest in attracting and retaining talented entrepreneurs.

Ralph and Stacy’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to stay patient, consistent, and committed to their vision. “Be patient, and stick to your plan,” Ralph advised. Stacy added, “Learn every department of your business. The more you know, the stronger you’ll be.”
